Lazio look set to be without Miroslav Klose for an extended period of time with ‘a suspected muscular tear’.

The German striker went off injured during last night’s Champions League play-off win over Bayer Leverkusen and admitted after the match the prognosis was not good.

“Miro Klose has a suspected muscular tear in his right thigh,” Biancocelesti doctor Stefano Salvatori told Lazio Style Radio.

“Tomorrow we’ll do the necessary tests in order to ascertain a recovery time.”

Salvatori then gave a brief update on the other injured players in the Aquile squad, with Stefan De Vrij fit for the return leg and Saturday’s Serie A opener.

“Filip Djordjevic has just started a new phase of his program, we’ll evaluate him next week to see how he’s progressing, but he definitely won’t be available for Saturday.

“At the moment he’s not undertaking significant training.

“In the match yesterday [Stefan] De Vrij reported concussion, so it was important that he be substituted immediately.

“Fortunately the lad is fine today, just tired from yesterday’s match. There’s no problem from the knock he had.

“Federico Marchetti won’t be available for Saturday. In the role he plays [goalkeeper], you have to wait for the pain to pass completely by resting [the ‘keeper has two broken ribs].”
