Suso struggled for playing time under Sinisa Mihajlovic last season, but has become a key part of Vincenzo Montella’s side.

“I didn’t play a single minute with Mihajlovic, but Montella has put his confidence in me. I won’t hide behind the usual phrases: I want to play, I want to be a starter from here until the end of the season.

“Montella surprised me, because he always wants to play with he ball. He’s a very Spanish Coach who always wants to win the ball from the defence high up the pitch.

“The objective is to return to Europe, but if we lose two games in a row that would change the discourse. So we have to take it one step at a time.

“At my age I’m playing for a top club. I’m happy here, I’m ready to renew my contract.”
