The format is not the only thing that changed for the Supercoppa Italiana, but the treatment of yellow and red cards for bans too.

The tournament will be played in Riyadh next week, with Thursday’s semi-final between Napoli and Fiorentina, then on Friday Inter take on Lazio.

Rather than just being between the Scudetto winners and Coppa Italia holders, this format also includes the runners-up in Serie A and the Coppa.

The Lega Serie A and FIGC announced changes to the rules for cards, so if a player is booked in Serie A Week 20 – as we have already seen with Inter’s Hakan Calhanoglu and Lazio’s Mattia Zaccagni, for example – this activates a ban that will be applied in the next Serie A round.

It will not be active during the Supercoppa Italiana.

At the same time, if a player is on a yellow card from Serie A and is booked during the Supercoppa semi-final, that ban will be applied in the next Serie A round.

The only way a player can be banned for the Supercoppa Final is if he is sent off in the semi-final.
