New Inter signing Petar Sucic is pushing for a spot in the starting line-up for his side’s first game at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup following his recent arrival from Dinamo Zagreb.

Sucic became Inter’s first new signing of the summer transfer window when he put pen to paper on a five-year contract after sealing a €16.5m deal from Dinamo Zagreb at the start of June.

He and fellow new recruit Luis Henrique have already joined their new teammates and are now based at UCLA in California for the FIFA Club World Cup taking place across the United States over the next month.

As Nerazzurri midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is expected to be unavailable for Inter’s first game of the tournament, against CF Monterrey in the early hours of Wednesday morning, there is an increasing possibility that Sucic is handed a full debut according to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport

New head coach Cristian Chivu now has a couple of options to replace Calhanoglu in the starting line-up with regular 2024-25 deputy Kristjan Asllani, as well as the presence of Piotr Zielinski and the aforementioned Sucic.

Chivu still has a few more training sessions to make his assessments and decide upon his first starting line-up as Inter head coach. However, La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that a midfield trio of Nicolo Barella, Sucic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan is a likely scenario.
