Luis Suarez has been interviewed by the authorities in Perugia as part of the investigation into rigged Italian citizenship exams.

According to news agency Ansa, magistrates in Perugia spoke to the Uruguay international via videoconference as a witness rather than someone under investigation.

The player, now with Atletico Madrid, but at the time of the exam in September was playing for Barcelona, received a B1 passing grade on his oral exam at the University for Foreigners in Perugia.

This would’ve allowed him to apply for an Italian passport, which he was eligible for because his wife is of Italian origin.

The University for Foreigners in Perugia was already under investigation for passing students too easily, which is why their phones were wiretapped when Suarez arrived to take his test.
