According to Il Corriere dell’Umbria, Luis Suarez has told Italian authorities he had a preliminary agreement with Juventus in August, but the Old Lady retired from the race to sign him in mid-September.

The Atletico Madrid striker was interviewed by the authorities in Perugia as part of the investigation into rigged Italian citizenship exams.

The 33-year-old reportedly confirmed he had been informed about the questions of the exam, adding he had reached a preliminary agreement with the Old Lady at the end of August.

On September 14, however, Juventus’ DFO Fabio Paratici informed him and his entourage the Old Lady would not sign him.

Perugia’s Prosecutor Office confirmed at the beginning of the month the suspension for eight months from the exercise of public offices for the Rector of the University Giuliana Grego, the University’s CEO Simone Olivieri and professors Stefania Spina and Lorenzo Rocca ‘for the offence of disclosure of professional secrecy aimed at undue profit and multiple ideological falsehoods in public acts.’

Fabio Paratici is also under investigation.

“The crime alleged by the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Perugia is exclusively Article 371 bis of the Criminal Code,” Juventus wrote in an official statement on December 4.

“The club strongly reiterates the correctness of Paratici’s work and is confident that the ongoing investigations will help clarify his position within a reasonable time.”
