Suarez a World Cup doubt

Italy’s World Cup opponents Uruguay have been hit with news that Luis Suarez has suffered a knee injury that could rule him out this summer.

The Liverpool forward twisted his knee during training with his national team colleagues yesterday, and, after feeling discomfort afterwards, underwent precautionary tests.

Those tests highlighted damage to the meniscus in the joint and the Uruguay camp have reported that the player will now undergo surgery on the injury.

This is believed set for Thursday, handing Suarez 22 days to recover in time to make the Celeste’s opening Group D match with Costa Rica.

Those in the country’s training camp are reportedly optimistic for the 27-year-old’s chances, but recovery from such an injury can take between four and six weeks.
