The Squali lifted themselves off the foot of the table, at least temporarily, with this impressive 2-1 victory thanks to a pair of great goals from Junior Messias.

“We could’ve had an even bigger lead than 2-0 at half-time, then there was that chance on the corner and Parma got back into it with the goal for 2-1,” said Stroppa in his press conference.

“Apart from that, we showed a great spirit of sacrifice to fight our way to victory. We were fortunate at times, but if we look at the full 90 minutes, I think my team deserved much, much more.

“We played with character and determination. I didn’t speak to the players as much before the game as I usually do, because I could tell it wasn’t necessary.

“Having said that, we still need to improve our final ball, as we weren’t clean enough in our passing in the second half. Still, we brought home a truly important result. The lads were extraordinary this evening.”
