Giovanni Stroppa sees a lack of ‘determination and focus’ as the main problems for Crotone after their 3-1 defeat to Sampdoria.

The Squali saw their positive streak come to an end at Marassi with a 3-1 defeat, as Nwankwo Simy’s penalty was not enough against Mikkel Damsgaard, Jakub Jankto and Fabio Quagliarella.

“We must learn to win individual duels more and hold the ball up better,” Stroppa told Sky Sport Italia.

“The team is playing well, but it’s not enough. We had some opportunities in the first half and we didn’t make the right choices.

“We also have to take responsibility for conceding the goals when the defence was in position. We can do much better, but it’s above all a matter of determination and focus.

“Unfortunately, we have these limitations and aren’t consistent over 90 minutes. I know my players, it’s not a question of arrogance, but we must learn to get it done more clinically.”

Arkadiusz Reca won the penalty with a mazy run and had some other chances, but Stroppa wasn’t entirely impressed.

“He attacks well in fits and starts, but needs to remember sometimes to play as a real defender too. For example, the first goal he let himself get caught out of position.”
