However, as the new season approaches, the 26-year-old insists he is feeling well and is looking forward to the Giallorossi’s upcoming Champions League play-offs

“Maybe for other players it is different, but I am grateful to Roma,” Strootman said. “After having been out for three seasons it is important to be ready to play.

“Especially for us, because in three weeks we have our most important matches of the year, the Champions League play-offs.

“The games we will play against Liverpool and Montreal will be very important because we will need to show what we can do.

“I am happy to be back with the team, I feel good.”

Strootman also confessed that the loss of Miralem Pjanic to rivals Juventus is a serious blow to his side.

“We know Juventus have a great team. They bought one of our best players, for us it was a big loss but we have to concentrate on ourselves.”
