Kevin Strootman has expressed his delight at Roma’s Champions League qualification and admits he ‘cannot wait’ to return to the pitch.

The Dutchman is currently recovering in his home country from surgery on a cruciate ligament knee injury sustained in early March.

In his absence, the Giallorossi have tied up second place in Serie A with four games to spare and with it, automatic progression into the group stages of next year’s Champions League.

For the midfielder, it is something extra to anticipate during his recovery.

“I cannot wait to get back and to play,” Strootman is quoted today by the Gazzetta dello Sport as saying.

“I am happy for what my teammates have done, even if I had no doubt about it…”

The pink paper also indicate that latest suggestions on Strootman’s injury is that he is progressing ‘in the best way possible’ and he could be back in time for the start of next season.

The 24-year-old was originally speculated as having been handed a nine-month recovery schedule.
