Milan defender Ivan Strinic admits “I was afraid I’d have to stop playing football”, but has now set a target for his return to the pitch.

The Croatian signed for the Rossoneri in the summer, but he was diagnosed with cardiac hypertrophy and ordered to spend three months on the sidelines.

This week the left-back finally returned to training, and he reflected on his experience in an interview with Sky.

“I've never had anything like this in my life and it's normal to be afraid,” Strinic admitted.

“I've never had anything like this in my life and it's normal to be afraid,” Strinic admitted.

“It’s been three very quick months because I’ve been with my family and friends, and I want to thank them. I’m here, in a new chapter of my life, and I’m happy.

“I was afraid I’d have to stop playing football, I was told I’d have to stop for at least three months. I got a check-up every month and this time they told me everything was OK and I could return to training.

“I got an emotional welcome from [Coach Gennaro] Gattuso and the team, they applauded me.

“Now I have to start from scratch, I’m training and my objective is to return for Milan Fiorentina [on December 22].

“It’s difficult to make plans now though.”
