The 38-year-old rose to prominence when he was appointed Inter boss in March 2012, hot on the heels of his exploits in leading their Primavera side to the NextGen championship.
However, his spell with the Nerazzurri lasted just 14 months, prompting him to take a sabbatical and return to the managerial fold with the Zebrette this season.
For the Bianconeri’s sporting director, the tactician is more than proving his worth.
“We really like Stramaccioni because he has ideas, a personality and is a great influence, as is his assistant [Dejan] Stankovic. The lads follow his lead and we are happy,” Giaretta has told Radio CRC.
“Stramaccioni still has much to learn about the squad, so we must be patient in return. At the beginning of the season, it’s always difficult.”
Giaretta, who joined Udinese in the summer of 2013 from Novara, was open about the problems facing his administration at the Friuliani.
“We are in a great position from a technical and business point of view, but less so from the city’s perspective, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to match the biggest clubs.
“We hope to continue along our path, but with great humility, and our goal remains survival. Once we achieve this, we will decide on other objectives.
“We’ve gone ahead with work on the stadium, and although there is a reduced capacity, it is operating at the maximum [it possibly can].
“Hopefully, we can stay on this path with great humility. At the moment, our sole objective is survival. Upon reaching this, we may look towards other goals.”
Udinese’s next match is against Napoli, who suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat at home to Chievo in the last round of Serie A fixtures but responded with a display of character to triumph 3-1 against Sparta Prague in the Europa League.
“After the defeat to Chievo, the media asked me what I thought of Napoli and if they were in crisis.
“When a squad is healthy, these situations create anger and reaction, and they showed it last night.
“The value of Napoli is still very high. They remain intact, and against Sparta Prague we also saw the great personality of Higuain.”
