The club needs a new tactician after Francesco Guidolin announced his retirement from management.
He will now become the technical supervisor for all three clubs owned by the Pozzo family: Udinese, English Championship side Watford and Spanish Liga participants Granada.
The initial first choice was thought to be former Juventus and Sampdoria boss Del Neri.
However, the latest reports have ex-Inter Coach Stramaccioni in the ascendancy, as he is more inclined to give young players time on the field.
“We want a more attacking style of football,” explained President Giampaolo Pozzo. “We are also evaluating options abroad.”
