He was the player of the year at Pescara and Stramaccioni revealed he wanted to pick up Lorenzo Insigne’s former teammate.
Stramaccioni was promoted from coaching the U19 squad to take over the first team at the Giuseppe Meazza in March 2012.
The 45-year-old told 1 Station Radio an anecdote regarding the PSG midfielder.
“To give an idea of Italian football, reflect on the fact that Marco Verratti was brought to Paris Saint-Germain without going through Serie A,” he said, according to FCInterNews.
“He was at Pescara with Lorenzo Insigne and both were already at another level.
“I wanted Verratti at Inter, Massimo Moratti tried, but everyone was afraid to bet on him, nobody believed in him.”
