Thomas Strakosha has claimed coach Simone Inzaghi ‘changed the mentality’ at Lazio, who have ‘started to believe’ in winning the Scudetto.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper has been an ever-present in Serie A for the Biancocelesti this season, keeping nine clean sheets in the process, but reveals he has struggled with an injury of late.

“I have a small problem, but I’m on my way back,” Strakosha told Lazio’s official channels. “The situation has improved and now we are only waiting for the date of the resumption.

“There is no fear, we love football and we want to be happy again.”

The Albania international has claimed Lazio have surprised themselves this season but now ‘believe’ in overcoming Juventus at the top of the table.

“Dreaming is always good, that’s how we got to second,” he added. “The initial goal was the Champions League, we weren’t expecting it either. Now, we have started to believe it.”

He gives coach Inzaghi credit for having given them the belief and made them take the necessary risks to gain terrain on their rivals, despite still having been compact at the back and conceded the least goals in Serie A 2019-20.

“The mentality has changed, the qualities were always there. Before we didn’t believe, Inzaghi has improved us.

“They’re all good guys in the team, it’s not easy to find that many. The coach is good at not putting pressure on us, we are calm and we enjoy every situation.

“Over the years, we have also changed a few players. The fruits [of our work] were not seen immediately, patience was needed.

“Now, we take risks, but people are having fun. I also like to be involved in the game, I feel more alive. We hope to remain the best defence even at the end of the campaign, we all play for each other.

“In times of difficulty, we have the players who are able to take responsibility and change the games.”
