Lecce Presidente Saverio Sticchi Damiani has claimed Serie A must resume to ‘avoid financial disaster and a series of controversies’.

Italy is entering phase two of the coronavirus pandemic and the country will gradually come out of quarantine, but football still awaits its fate and Sticchi Damiani hopes to escape ‘significant problems’ by resuming play.

“The League is united; we want to start again safely,” Sticchi Damiani told Tuttomercatoweb. “The only way to avoid a financial disaster and a series of controversies is to start playing again.

“If there are the conditions to stall and wait for new scenarios to open from a health point of view, it would be right to resume.

“If the situation doesn’t improve with the reopening, it would be complicated and would entail a series of significant problems.”
