‘Steward corrects Garcia statement’

Roma’s director general Mauro Baldissoni believes Rudi Garcia’s suspension will be lifted after the steward involved partially retracted his statement.

Roma’s director general Mauro Baldissoni believes Rudi Garcia’s suspension will be lifted after the steward involved partially retracted his statement.

The Giallorossi Coach was suspended for two games following an altercation with a steward after his side’s win at Genoa on Sunday, but the person involved has reportedly retracted his statement, at least in part.

“We laid out the facts as you know them already, and there’s a new element,” Baldissoni told Roma Radio outside the Federal Court where Garcia’s appeal is being heard.

“We received a new statement by the steward which makes a substantial correction. The facts are related to an attempt to clear the tunnel, this statement was presented to the court.

“I understand that in the heat of the moment the steward may have made a misinterpretation, there’s no reason why Garcia would attack the steward.

“He was attempting to clear the tunnel, what happened was only related to that. The steward has realised that he went too far.

“We are confident, we have nothing to fear when we haven’t broken the rules, we expect all bans to be lifted.

“As for Holebas, in an amicable manner we presented them photographic evidence. We reminded the court of previous decisions, where fines were levied in comparable cases.”
