Coach Roberto Stellone is launching legal action against Ascoli after the Serie B club sacked him for being ‘too expensive.’ “He’s been depicted as a miser in global media during a pandemic.”

The bizarre incident occurred this week, when Ascoli announced that they were terminating his contract in order to save money during the “unpredictable events” of the shutdown.

It’s reported they opted to fire the coach when he objected to having his salary docked.

“We tried to reach an agreement, so there was no other choice. Ascoli respected all the procedures,” the club’s lawyer Pietro Madonia told the Corriere Adriatico newspaper.

Stellone’s lawyer Paolo Rodella responded on GianlucaDiMarzio.com.

“This story went all over the world and took on an international aspect. From Europe to Honduras, Stellone was depicted as a miser in global media, as someone who refused to reduce his salary during the coronavirus pandemic.

“He was depicted as someone who is avaricious, shows no respect for moral principles or the suffering of others, all of which is completely untrue and nothing like Roberto.

“This is damage to his reputation on a global scale and it was done thanks to Ascoli’s clumsy media technique. He has every right to be compensated for this damage.”
