Amanda Staveley, co-owner of Newcastle alongside the Saudi Public Investment Fund, commented on the rumours linking the PIF with a possible takeover of Inter.

The Nerazzurri’s current owners the Suning group have experienced some financial difficulties in recent years as a result of the COVID pandemic and last summer they seemed destined to sell the club following the departures of Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku. They are still the owners of the club but a sale could be on the horizon soon.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Business of Football Summit today, Staveley discussed the rumours linking the PIF with a possible takeover of Inter.

“I don’t know where this rumour comes from, but you should ask the PIF.”

The PIF took over Newcastle United from Mike Ashley last year, causing much uproar and division in England due to Saudi Arabia’s poor human rights record. Many have accused the Premier League of allowing another case of sports washing, similar to what’s been done with Qatari back Paris Saint-Germain and Abu Dhabi backed Manchester City.

  1. Seems the only way to compete in football nowadays is having a super-rich owner.

Yes, they’re as dodgy as hell. But no-one cares when the Americans comes in, despite them being far and away the biggest warmongering nation on the planet.

  2. Hey Ferban I see your inner wokeness is coming out. What has war got to do with football? Go ask the free loading EU nations to pay their 2% clown. The US protects cheap skate nations and yet they still buy Russian crude oil lol. What happened to the windmills and the green revolution?

  3. @tony

    1: What’s a “2% clown”?
2: How do I ask them, exactly? How would you do it?

I was just saying people lose their minds when Saudi Arabia (or now Russia) are involved with sport, but turn a blind eye to American involvement. Understand?

  4. Hey Ferban educate yourself first and foremost before dumping on countries when this is a football site. You call the US a war mongering country, yet the US has to protect EU nations from Russia and most do not even pay 2% from their GDP budget yet you are at the mercy of Russian energy. The US is not a perfect country like most countries. But looking at history European countries have raided, pillaged and colonised more countries on the globe then anyone else. If the US did not get involved in WW2 you would be speaking German by now so show some respect. Also I do not get your point. Saudi Arabia has some of the worst human rights issues for women on the planet. As for Russia I would suggest you take a look at the EU more closely as they want to expand their failed project right on the doorstep of Russia. That is called a National Security threat. As for the US they are not innocent either but funny how there was no silly wars when the last guy was in charge. Understand?

  6. As for the US they are not innocent in any of this, but funny how nobody recognises that the US did not engage in any new silly wars for 4 years when the last guy was in charge.

  7. Speaking German? lol

Don’t make thick statements. Tony – you have absolutely no idea how things would have turned out.

And you’re a slave to Russian energy too.

And for WW2, it was the Russians that stopped the Germans, not the Americans. Please don’t let your Hollywood hero fantasies get in the way of that fact, please.

    Anyway, I asked you:

    1: What’s a “2% clown”?
2: How do I ask them, exactly? How would you do it?

  8. Tony, u are a typical american monkey. Firstly, the russian stopped the german not any american soldier.

Secondly. America started every second war or invaded every country which ddidnt want to follow american rules, so stop with GdP or what ever.

Wake up and stop watching american moovies

  9. The big difference is, Americans who come in are PRIVATE investors. Clubs like PSG, Man City or Newcastle are backed by corrupt states.

  10. Leave all of the politics out of the Calcio discussions. This site has gone downhill, in coverage, and its readers.

  11. This WW2 back and forth is puerile and ridiculous. Lots of countries and lots of people sacrificed to beat the Nazis – and no one suffered as much as the Europeans did. The US is the largest contributor to NATO which is an alliance of not just EU countries. (So the US is not just ‘defending’ the EU) Energy wars are nothing new and the US is as complicit as anyone else. Back to football – American owners – as pointed out – are individuals and not part of ‘sport-washing’ as a tactic used by Russia, Israel, Saudia Arabia to ‘big – up’ their country and to cover up international law breaking and Human Rights abuse.

  12. If PIF buys Inter, they cannot compete against Newcastle in Europe. I don’t think they bought Newcastle to keep battling against relegation. So the chances of them buying Inter are very low.

  13. Hey Ferban, I see you are still cherry picking moments from history. WW2 victory was a collective effort from allied countries. The Russian winter halted the German movements, but you seem to forgot that the US supplied Stalin with 400,000 trucks, 2000 locomotives more than 10,000 rail rolling stock and billions of dollars’ worth of warplanes, tanks, food and clothing. At the same time, the U.S. also supplied nearly a quarter of Britain’s munitions. Oh and I forgot why did Churchill beg FDR to come and step in?
As for the 2% I still see you do not know what Gross Domestic Product is. Know wonder why the bulk of EU countries do not pay it for Nato defence as they free load of the US. At least the UK and Poland believe in defence spending lol.

As for Simple Ibrahim good to see the racism coming out of you. So I am an American monkey. That is nice. I could throw it back at you but that is ok as I was not born retarded like you. Work on your vocabulary pal, “ddint” and “moovies” lol. I forgot the US started WW1, WW2 and the Vietnam War. Funny how you do not mention French occupation of Vietnam, Japan invading Korea, China etc and Europe colonising half the globe. Once a fool always a fool lol.

  14. @ tony

so you’re saying the Americans, in the long run, helped the Russians become what they are today by helping them back then? so then you blame both for Russia now, yes?

u also said the Americans aren’t in any new wars recently. but they’re still in plenty of wars with plenty of troops overseas, dropping plenty of bombs.

the war not being “new” doesn’t make it just as bad tony lol

and quit going on about ancient history anyway. the point is, if Russian teams are being banned, the the Americans shouldn’t be anywhere near any sporting tournament in the world. if u can’t see that, wake up.

  15. As a proud Brit, I agree with you Tony in many ways as you had at least the rationale to mention that your country is not perfect and also do not forget Britain played a huge role defeating Nazi Germany as well.

Do not worry about @Ferban not knowing what 2 percent is. The EU are economically illiterate and are like those people who go to the bar and never pay for the drinks always expecting your country to foot the bill entirely. When they get queried about this then they start bemoaning the idea of having to pay their fair share. They hate on the US all day long yet have no issues purchasing iphones, starbucks and so on whilst lining the pockets of China and the US. Honestly the hypocrisy is priceless.

Better still I say let the EU army begin and let them sort out their own mess for once, then we will see the French the first to retreat as they always do. Whilst Germany are sending 5000 helmets to the Ukrainians your country is sending Javelin missiles. Honestly you cannot make this stuff up such is the joke of that economically declining block. 😂

  16. @ Lee Page/tony

    lol

    I know what 2% is.

What I asked (twice, in fact) was, ‘what’s “2% clown”‘.

    Can’t you read either, Lee/tony?

Want to have a third go at answering?
