Simone Inzaghi’s Inter end 2021 as winter champions and the stats clearly highlight the team’s incredible form.

The Nerazzurri have scored 49 goals in the first 19 games of this season, an unbelievable amount that has only been achieved once in the last 60 years, by Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta back in the 2019/20 season.

Inter have also won their last six consecutive league outings without conceding a goal, something that hasn’t been achieved by the Milanese club since 1979. The team have only come close to this twice in the last 43 years, in 1989 with Giovanni Trapattoni and in 1996 with Roy Hodgson.

The Milanese club’s strong defensive form has been accompanied by an incredible average of almost three goals per game, with the team scoring 20 goals in their last seven league matches. This attacking efficiency is why the Nerazzurri have scored in the last 38 consecutive league matches.

In Serie A history, only rivals Juventus have done better, on two different occasions. The first of these came in the 2013/14 season, when the Bianconeri scored in 43 consecutive games, and in the 2016/17 season, when they scored in 44 consecutive matches.

The 104 goals scored in 2021 represent the fifth highest goal tally in a calendar year, behind Milan’s 105 goals in 1949, Torino’s 111 and 114 goals in 1947 and 1948 respectively and Milan’s 120 goals in 1950.

These numbers suggest that Inter are on pole position to defend their league title for the first time since the 2009/10 season, when they won the treble under Jose Mourinho following their Scudetto in the 2008/09 campaign.
