As well as the numerous injuries, another curious statistic is raising real question marks around Stefano Pioli’s fitness training at Milan.

The Rossoneri have been decimated by various setbacks, the vast majority of them muscular injuries, which would point towards a problem with the training routines.

Following the 3-2 defeat to Atalanta, it has been pointed out that Milan also show a serious lack of longevity and tend to fall to pieces in the closing half-hour of their matches.

Between Serie A and the Champions League, Milan have conceded a total 25 goals and 13 of those came from the 60th minute onwards.

That is over 50 per cent of the goals let in during the final half-hour, plus stoppages.

It might not only be a physical issue, but a psychological one too, which sees them lose their focus and concentration.

That is reflected also in the disciplinary record in today’s 3-2 loss to Atalanta, as there were six yellow cards for Milan players, all of them from the 71st minute onwards.

That includes two for Davide Calabria, who was therefore sent off just before Luis Muriel’s winner.

  1. All the talk is of lay offs and fitness, and yet we are overlooking the gigantic elephant in the room. FIVE red cards!!! FIVE red cards in the opening 15 games is pretty much unheard of for a club of Milan‘s usual standing when it comes to fair play and player behaviour. This is by far the most shameful stat.
