Inter team manager Dejan Stankovic insists “third-place is not impossible” but Roberto Mancini will stay whatever happens.

The Nerazzurri were targeting a return to the Champions League this season, but currently lie six points behind third-place Roma as the season draws to a close.

“Mancini?” Stankovic considered when Mediaset asked about the Coach.

“He’s wedded to our project, he’s working with a wonderful squad and we’ll see him with us next year too.

“Mancini?” Stankovic considered when Mediaset asked about the Coach.

“He’s wedded to our project, he’s working with a wonderful squad and we’ll see him with us next year too.

“We were in the lead but it’s normal [that they’ve slipped away], we talked often about an Inter side that had changed a lot of players.

“This is a group of great lads who have made themselves available to Mancini. There’s been a bit of a decline compared to earlier in the year, with a few disappointing results, particularly at home.

“We continue on our way though, third place is difficult, but not impossible, and as long as it’s mathematically possible we’ll strive for it.

“If we finish where we are now though it won’t be a drama, because we’ll still be in Europe.

“There are still six games to go, the point is to understand that we can’t go calmly to the end of the season.”

The Beneamata welcome Scudetto-chasing Napoli to San Siro tomorrow, and Stankovic is looking forward to the occasion.

“Our match against Napoli is critical, a beautiful challenge with a full San Siro. I saw the lads yesterday and the day before, they’re preparing well for the game.

“It will be an opportunity to play a great match.”
