Dejan Stankovic believes Roberto Mancini “is the right man” to bring Inter back to the top all over again.

The Udinese assistant manager was already part of the Nerazzurri squad the first time Mancini was in charge from 2004 to 2008.

“I think he is the right man,” Stankovic told La Gazzetta dello Sport after Walter Mazzarri was sacked.

“Firstly because he’s a great Coach and he didn’t just prove that with Inter. Secondly he knows the club and everything around it, which can make an enormous difference when you don’t have time to lose.

“Thirdly he wanted to come back to work. That’s like a monkey on your back that you cannot easily shake off. Fourthly, he wanted to work in Italy again, as he missed some things about his country and maybe had a few things to get off his chest after time away.

“Fifth, Mancini has gained experience in the meantime, including on the international stage, and you can’t buy that on the market.

“This is what Inter and its fans needed, to rediscover an emotional connection with their Coach.”

Now Stankovic has also begun his management career on the Udinese staff with ex-Inter boss Andrea Stramaccioni.

“I will hug Mancini and maybe even thank him, as he really helped me to grow as a player. Without knowing it, even then he was teaching something to the Coach I would become in future.

“I watched him explain the play, studied him and tried to understand his ideas. Not all, but many of them were similar to mine, the ideas I still have today.”
