Samir Handanovic showed off his class in Inter’s 1-0 win over Torino yesterday, bouncing back after being benched in the Champions League.

The 38-year-old Slovenian shot stopper has started every league game this season under Simone Inzaghi, but was not given the green light for the Champions League opener against Bayern Munich, with new signing Andre Onana being given his first taste of action. The veteran clearly didn’t let this distract him, however.

Handanovic was one of the best on the pitch in Inter’s 1-0 win yesterday, ensuring the Nerazzurri took home all three points after an edgy clash with Torino. La Gazzetta dello Sport highly praised the veteran, noting “there’s a lot of his work in the three points. And it wasn’t an emotionally easy afternoon.”

Corriere dello Sport were even more impressed by the 38-year-old’s work, believing that “he kept Inter on their feet with a long sequence of saves. At one point he seemed the only one able to oppose Vlasic. But the real feat was near the end against Radonijc.”

Tuttosport felt much the same, although they looked to comic books and the crowd to find the right words to praise the Slovenian veteran, “after having digested the bench in the Champions League, he turns up wearing the mantle of Superman. Standing ovation night.”
