The new rules limiting stadium capacity in Serie A to just 5,000 is far more damaging to some clubs than others, while for Venezia it’s actually an improvement on 50 per cent.

The arena capacity was never returned to 100 per cent after the initial lockdown in March 2020, but had reached 75 per cent in recent weeks.

That dropped back down to 50 per cent when the Omicron wave hit the Peninsula and from January 15 to February 5 the capacity will be sliced to just 5,000 regardless of the size of the arena.

Serie A stadium capacity reduced to 5,000

Calcio e Finanza point out the lack of logic in this move, especially because in one case it’s actually an improvement.

Venezia’s Stadio Penzo only holds 9,977 people, so 5,000 is more than 50 per cent, which would’ve been 4,988.

For other clubs with much larger stadiums, it will see social distancing in the extreme, especially Milan vs. Juventus on January 23.

A full house at 75 per cent had generated 56,608 spectators for Milan-Inter on November 7.

The rules published by the Lega Serie A now confirm no travelling fans will be able to attend matches during that period.
