“We had fun,” Squinzi said after the match, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport.
“There’s still a slightly bitter taste for the chances we missed, but the team put in an excellent performance tonight.
“I have no idea what the real substance of Red Star is, but if we’d won 7-0 or 8-0 it wouldn’t have flattered us, we completely dominated.
“Sassuolo are very strong, I’ve been saying that since last year where we played on a par with everyone. We might have won or lost, but we gave everyone a game.
“When we got to Serie A our objective was to improve by 10 points each season. I could make a small discount, but eight points more and we could get directly into the Champions League.”
