The Italian sports media has reacted to Juventus’ win over Tottenham Hotspur, which saw them through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
The Bianconeri drew 2-2 in the first leg of their Last 16 tie, but took a 2-1 win last night thanks to goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala.
Under the headline “Queen of England”, La Stampa declared that the Old Lady had won thanks to the Argentine pair “but also [Stephan] Lichtsteiner and [Kwadwo] Asamoah who changed the game”.

Above all though, the newspaper said, the win was a triumph for Coach Massimiliano Allegri who “guessed the moves without complaining about absences”.
All three of Italy’s major sports newspapers went with “Lions” on their front pages today, with Gazzetta dello Sport hailing “a heartfelt ‘Italian Job’ which conquered the temple of English football”.
Fabio Licari’s match report praised Spurs, but noted that they “will have to adjust in defence to go beyond the Premier League”, while noting “that Juventus have reached two of the last three finals is not by chance”.
Corriere della Sera noted “for an hour in the temple of English football there were only white shirts, those of Spurs” as Juventus “almost refused to play”.
However, Higuain and Dybala struck within three minutes of each other and “Wembley, as if by magic, fell silent”.
The Corriere dello Sport was much more harsh on Tottenham, describing “a great demonstration of mental and technical strength” from the Bianconeri which was “permitted by the weakness of the English character, unable to maintain concentration throughout the game”.
Tuttosport pointed out that Juve had “a stonewall penalty” turned down in the first half but “before and after it was only Tottenham”.
The Turin-based paper was full of praise for Giorgio Chiellini and the way he shut down Harry Kane after Juve had taken the lead.
