Tottenham director Franco Baldini is in Italy, reportedly to buy Mattia Destro from Roma and sell Sandro to Napoli.

According to Sportitalia, Baldini flew in on Friday and began intensive negotiations with two different Serie A clubs.

His main mission is to see whether Roma are prepared to sell centre-forward Destro, who scored 13 goals in just 20 Serie A games last season.

The 23-year-old was left out of Italy’s World Cup squad, but has one goal in five senior caps.

He spent much of the last year out of action with a recurring knee problem and is valued at around €17m (approximately £13.6m).

Roma are more willing to sell Destro now, as they have just spent €22m plus add-ons for Verona forward Juan Manuel Iturbe and are closing in on Bayern Munich’s Xherdan Shaqiri.

Tottenham chief Baldini is also in Italy to negotiate the sale of midfielder Sandro to Napoli.

Sportitalia claim the asking price for the Brazilian was €12m (£9.6m), but that Spurs are now prepared to lower that bar.
