Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Sportiello is ready to put pen to paper on his upcoming Milan contract, reports detail.

The Rossoneri have been in somewhat of a goalkeeping crisis this season following the calf injury suffered by regular starter Mike Maignan, who has been entirely absent since September.

Backup shot stopper Ciprian Tatarusanu has taken his place in the Milan squad but struggled to match expectations, leaving the Rossoneri defence looking shaky and on edge throughout games.

As reported by Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Sportiello will meet with Milan next week to sign his new contract with the club.

Paolo Maldini hoped to pick up the 30-year-old in the January transfer window but couldn’t agree a deal with Atalanta, forcing the Rossoneri to wait until the summer to welcome him.

Sportiello will replace Tatarusanu in the squad, playing backup to Maignan. Milan hope to recover the French goalkeeper in the coming weeks, something that could help them end their run of poor form.

  1. Unsure as to why every article has to be critical of Tata. Yes, he’s not as good as Maignan, very few are. It’s not his fault the entire defence and midfield can be walked through this season.
