Stefano Bandecchi announced the deal to buy Livorno from President Aldo Spinelli is “99 per cent complete.”
Spinelli had said he was eager to sell the Amaranto, as he was becoming too old and tired for top flight football.
Il Tirreno online published a statement from L'università Niccolò Cusano, founded by Bandecchi, confirming the news.
“L'università Niccolò Cusano is pleased to announce the negotiations with President Spinelli are 99 per cent defined.
“The remaining one per cent is to be attributed to technical issues that we hope can be resolved as soon as possible by our respective consultants.
“L’UniCusano thanks President Spinelli for the opportunity offered to us.”
Bandecchi is a 53-year-old former member of the parachute regiment, but is also known to support Silvio Berlusconi and the old Msi party.
It’s bound to cause controversy, as Livorno notoriously have the most left-wing ultras in Italy and would baulk at having a patron who supports right-wing causes.
