Roma full-back Leonardo Spinazzola travels to Finland to undergo surgery and reconstruct the ruptured Achilles tendon in his left leg.

Spinazzola ruptured his Achilles tendon in the second half of Italy’s 2-1 win over Belgium on Friday and will start his long road to recovery tomorrow.

A surgery has been scheduled in Finland for tomorrow and Calciomercato.com reports the Italy defender has arrived at Ciampino airport.

He will travel from the Italian capital today and meet with Sakari Orava, who is known to be a ‘tendon magician’ and a professor who is an expert in this kind of operations.

Spinazzola had played four games at EURO 2020 and has been one of the standout performers of Italy this summer.

The left-back is expected to be out for around six months and Nicolò Barella stressed the Azzurri players will give their all to make the Roma man proud.

“Spinazzola’s injury was a bad blow,” Barella said at a press conference. “The only think we can do is make him proud.”

Italy face Spain in the semi-finals on Tuesday.
