Leonardo Spinazzola is confident more squad rotation will be effective when Italy take on Lithuania.

The Azzurri beat both Northern Ireland and Bulgaria 2-0 in their opening 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

“It was not to be taken for granted. We had to win, take home the three points and knew Bulgaria had some tough players,” Spinazzola told RAI Sport after this evening’s win.

“It was not to be taken for granted. We had to win, take home the three points and knew Bulgaria had some tough players,” Spinazzola told RAI Sport after this evening’s win.

“Every free kick they had was like a siege and they have a lot of height. We had to play dirty at times, but we got the job done.

“They came and pressed us man for man in the second half and we had trouble moving the ball around, but we got the result.”

Italy are now unbeaten in 24 official matches and their next qualifier is against Lithuania on Wednesday.

There were six changes to the starting XI this evening, so another round of squad rotation is expected.

“We are all good players here and whoever steps up will give their all for the team.”
