Jose Mourinho was forced into making a first half substitution during Roma’s Europa League semi-final second leg against Bayer Leverkusen after Leonardo Spinazzola picked up what looked to be a muscular injury after just over half an hour at the BayArena.

The left wing-back seemed to be struggling with an issue in his right thigh before being brought off and replaced by Nicola Zalewski in the 33rd minute.

Spinazzola had previously missed two games in February with a slight injury to his thigh, but has featured in every one of Roma’s games since then apart from in their most recent Serie A fixture against Bologna on Sunday.

At the time of Spinazzola’s injury, the scores on the night stood at 0-0, with the Giallorossi leading 1-0 on aggregate thanks to Edoardo Bove’s second half strike in the second half of the first game of the tie.

Should Roma avoid defeat in the second half, they will be rewarded with a place in the final against either Juventus or Sevilla depending on the outcome of Thursday evening’s other semi.
