Leonardo Spinazzola was named MVP in Italy vs. Austria and suggests defence was the key to qualify for the quarter-finals.

The Roma left-back was involved in both Italy goals in the round of 16 of Euro 2020 at Wembley and was named MVP of the game by UEFA.

“I am very happy for that, but I am even happier because we qualified and because we played as a team,” Spinazzola told Sky Sport Italia.

“Mancini told us to remain calm and to be more precise with the final pass. We remained focused and we defended all together, we are really happy,” he continued.

“We’ve always defended well, but never as we did tonight. Austria are physically strong and it was hard to win aerial duels. We played as a team and that’s important.”
