Italian player Leonardo Spinazzola who was injured earlier in the tournament celebrates after Italy won the UEFA EURO 2020 final between Italy and England in London

Italy international and Roma left-back Leonardo Spinazzola is getting closer to his comeback after tearing the Achilles tendon during UEFA EURO 2020.

The 28-year-old had been an essential part of the Azzurri squad for that tournament and was heading towards Player of the Tournament status until pulling up with a torn Achilles tendon during the quarter-final against Belgium on July 2.

The devastating injury was expected to keep him out for seven to nine months.

However, Roma released a video today of Spinazzola running and it suggests his comeback could be sooner than the original late December target.
