Spezia are reportedly hoping to replace Vincenzo Italiano with Claudio Ranieri, who leaves Sampdoria when his deal expires this month.

Reports in Italian media suggest the Aquilotti coach Italiano is on the verge of joining Fiorentina, and the club has started searching for his replacement.

Viola ready to pay compensation and free Italiano

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports the Ranieri has emerged as a possible candidate to replace Italiano at the Stadio Alberto Picco.

Italiano brought Spezia to Serie A and secured safety by finishing 15th in their first season in the top flight.

Ranieri helped the Blucerchiati finish ninth in Serie A 2020-21 but admitted the conditions to continue at the Marassi ‘were not right’.

The newspaper believes the 69-year-old is not the first name on Spezia owner Robert Platek’s list to take over and stay in Liguria.
