Two teams in need of a kick-start to the season meet on Sunday, but our Spezia vs. Bologna predictions are more likely to focus on an away win. The home side continue to confound the critics by staying in the Italian top flight though.

Spezia vs. Bologna odds

1 – Over 2.5 total goals scored – 4/5

2 – Bologna over 1.5 total goals – 11/10

3 – Bologna to win – 13/10

4 – Both teams to score – 4/6

5 – Marko Arnautović to score anytime – 8/5

Spezia kicked off the season in fine form with a 1-0 win at home against Empoli, but have found things a little more hard going since then. There have been some tough fixtures already though, so there should not be any major worries at the Stadio Alberto Picco.

Not many fans would have predicted Spezia getting anything from the trip to Turin in the week and the 2-0 reverse against Juventus will have been almost expected. But it was another good performance from Luca Gotti’s side – especially in the opening 20 minutes or so.

If Spezia can continue playing with that kind of spirit the Liguria club should be able to stay in Serie A for another year. Facing a Bologna team on the back of a home game against Salernitana will be a tough task though.

Siniša Mihajlović will not have been too happy with the results so far, but the opponents have all been in the top half of the table – aside from that most recent game. The home draw with Hellas Verona is really the only real disappointment so far.

There will be a hope to improve on last season’s 13th place finish, however. Now that Marko Arnautović will be staying at the club, Bologna should be able to give most teams a good game, with the potential for challenging for one of the European places.

Spezia were hardly impressive at home last season but are unbeaten in front of their own fans in this campaign. This should turn out to be an evenly balanced game between two sides that will both expect to finish the 90 minutes with three more points.

Spezia vs. Bologna line-ups

Spezia (3-5-2): Dragowski; Kiwior, Nikolaou, Hristov; Reca, Bourabia, Kovalenko, Bastoni, Holm; Gyasi, Nzola

Bologna (3-5-2): Skorupski; Soumaoro, Medel, Lucumi; De Silvestri, Ferguson, Schouten, Aebischer, Lykogiannis; Orsolini, Arnautović

Spezia team news

Luca Gotti should stick with the starting XI that began so well against Juventus in the week. There will be more hope of a positive result here against Bologna though – with all eyes on M’Bala Nzola to score the required goals.

Bologna team news

Riccardo Orsolini is back after suspension to partner Marko Arnautović up front and that should give Siniša Mihajlović’s side a little more firepower up front. Musa Barrow seems to be a wanted man across Europe but not for the Rossoblu at the moment.
