Spezia announce that midfielder Leo Sena is out of training for at least a month, likely more, after ‘temporary alterations of some physiological parameters’ were spotted during a medical.

The 25-year-old Brazilian had tested positive for COVID-19 during the pre-season training camp on July 11.

It’s not clear if this is related to the ‘parameters’ that were flagged during his medical, or there were cardiac irregularities.

Either way, out of an abundance of precaution, Spezia have decided to give Sena complete rest for a month and then perform the checks again.

“Spezia Calcio announces that during the periodic health examination for the renewal of the medical certificate of Leo Sena, some temporary alterations of some physiological parameters have been highlighted. Further clinical and instrumental investigation will be required,” read the statement.

“The player will now have to observe a period of activity suspension for about a month, during which his condition will be monitored by the club’s medical staff, and then a new evaluation will take place.”

Sena made 16 Serie A appearances last season, along with three in the Coppa Italia.
