Spezia director Eduardo Macia reveals they will receive a percentage of Jakub Kiwior’s sell-on fee as part of the deal with Arsenal. ‘Players now know you can go straight from Spezia to Arsenal.’
The defender really did flourish in Serie A in just 18 months, earning a place in Poland’s World Cup squad at Qatar 2022 and now a transfer to the Premier League worth a reported €25m plus €5m in bonuses.
That’s not all, as during a press conference today, Spezia director Macia revealed there are more add-ons included.
“We do have a percentage of the future sell-on fee for Kiwior, but it is reserved information, so I cannot say how much. I was fortunate enough to work for eight years in the Premier League,” said the former Liverpool, Leicester City, Fiorentina, Real Betis, Olympiacos and Valencia director.
“Arsenal are one of the 10 most important clubs in the world, in the way they are run. Arsenal can sell generally to nine clubs, at the level of Manchester City and Bayern Munich, and we are ready to take our small part of that possibility.”
Kiwior is comfortably the biggest sale in Spezia’s history, pulverising the previous €8m transfer of striker David Okereke to Club Brugge in 2019.
He also provided the biggest profit for the club, as 22-year-old Kiwior was signed from MSK Zilina for just €2.2m in the summer of 2021.
“Now the future is in Jakub’s hands, the club and team are proud of this situation, everyone was happy and motivated, because now players know you can go from Spezia to Arsenal without any intermediary step.
“If they give their all on the pitch, the opportunities will come their way. That is a message both for the current squad and those who want to come in future.”
Macia also openly invited his fellow technical directors and talent scouts to do some more shopping in Serie A and specifically at Spezia.
“I urge my colleagues to come to the Stadio Picco. We have the opportunity to show you that there are talented players here too, and not just at San Siro or the Stadio Olimpico.
“It is good too for our city and our fans.”
