Spezia Chief Football Officer Eduardo Macia confirms talks to sign Joao Moutinho from Orlando City and Internacional’s Johnny Cardoso, but denies Milan or anyone else has already come forward to Poland international Jakub Kiwior.

Macia is something of a legend in the game, working in various roles at Valencia, Liverpool, Olympiacos, Fiorentina, Real Betis, Leicester City and Girondins de Bordeaux until he was brought in by Spezia in September 2022.

In a lengthy press conference, he covered numerous subjects, including the push to purchase more players rather than taking them on loan.

There has been a lot of speculation already ahead of the 2022 World Cup into the future of Kiwior, who impressed so much at Spezia that he earned a place in the Poland squad for the tournament.

He is already attracting interest from the likes of Milan, Napoli and Inter, as well as clubs outside of Italy.

“Kiwior has had this incredible progress and is destined for an important step in his career, but it has to be at the right moment and there is no rush,” said Macia.

“It has to be a definitive step up and not a momentary one. I want players, agents and families to remember a career lasts to 32, 33, 35 years, it doesn’t end tomorrow. You don’t go to Bayern Munich to then drop back down to Brighton.

“There are rumours, but zero substance when it comes to transfers. We have not heard from anyone.”

Macia did confirm there are negotiations in progress for two players to join Spezia in the January transfer window.

They are Orlando City left-back Joao Moutinho, who will be a free agent on January 1, and Brazilian-American midfielder Johnny Cardoso of Internacional de Porto Alegre.
