Spezia were in shock after goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski broke his ankle during the game with Verona, meaning he is out of Poland’s World Cup squad.

The former Fiorentina shot-stopper was only just making his return from another injury in today’s Serie A match at the Stadio Bentegodi.

He rushed out to tackle Kevin Lasagna and his foot got caught under him, accidentally leaving Dragowski with a broken right ankle.

His teammates were visibly stunned at the horrific injury and rushed to console him as he was stretchered off.

Dragowski had been named in Poland’s World Cup squad for the tournament in Qatar starting later this month and it was to be his final Serie A match before the break for the competition.

There are three Serie A goalkeepers in the Poland team, as Dragowski was joined by Wojciech Szczesny of Juventus and Bologna’s Lukasz Skorupski.

The extent of the damage suggests Dragowski will be out of action for the rest of the season, as this is a very serious injury.
