The Azzurri played very well in the 1-1 draw with the team which defeated them in the Euro 2012 final, and the Roma Coach was impressed.

“It’s only right to congratulate the national team and Conte,” Spalletti told Roma TV.

“They played a great game. I’d start from the stadium, it was a beautiful spectacle of participation from the images I saw.

“We’re all part of the show, the images were very nice, seeing those people and children rejoicing in a beautiful setting like that.

“Our national team bossed the pitch and the play in a difficult game. We compare the quality of Italian football to that in Spain and we say we’re behind, yesterday showed that isn’t true.

“The 3-4-3 is a beautiful formation, it allows you to be more carefree. We did well not to concede, when we had the ball they suffered.”

Spalletti was then asked whether Spanish football was ahead of Italy at club level, even if the national teams are closer than has been portrayed.

“We’re getting closer. The national team being stronger is evidence of the research we’re doing, the Coaches we have and the champions we’re bringing to our League, who have made a contribution we’ve taken some characteristics from.

“In my opinion, we’re not in crisis. Yesterday we saw their best and our best.

“Going abroad you realise that they look at our culture and our history and everyone wants to take something. The tactical level of Italian football is a target for everyone.

“I didn’t see what the difference was in the game we watched yesterday.”
