Spalletti to make Di Lorenzo new Italy captain

Fresh Italy coach Luciano Spalletti is reportedly ready to appoint a new captain of the national team, choosing Napoli star Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

The 64-year-old Italian coach will be officially unveiled as the new Azzurri coach in Coverciano later this week, where he’ll speak to the media for the first time since his appointment as Roberto Mancini’s replacement.

Spalletti is fresh off his historic Scudetto success with Napoli last season and fans are excited to see his work with the national team following the recent decline under Mancini, which culminated in the team’s failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

As reported by Il Mattino via Calciomercato.com, Di Lorenzo is one of Spalletti’s most trusted players in the Italy squad and will soon be appointed as the captain of the national team, replacing Leonardo Bonucci.

The Juventus veteran, who is being pushed out of the club in Turin, will soon be phased out of the Azzurri squad as Spalletti looks to the future.
