Serie A is currently on a break for international duty, so there is a reduced squad working at the Castel Volturno training ground anyway.
Spalletti was not present on Wednesday or today, so his staff took over leading the sessions.
According to Sky Sport Italia, the tactician is suffering from flu symptoms and remained at home to rest.
He has tested negative for COVID-19 and it is hoped he will be back at work with his players soon.
