The Giallorossi beat Samp 3-2 back in September and last week crushed them 4-0 in the Coppa Italia Round of 16.
“I speak highly of Marco Giampaolo because I’ve known him for a very long time. I remember before Lyon-Roma, we played in Ascoli against his side and got a huge wake-up call, so even back then you could tell his qualities.
“I saw him work at Empoli and give consistency to the side after Maurizio Sarri, how he’s moulded Sampdoria and if you speak to players who were in his team, they all speak highly of him.
“We’ve been able to beat Samp twice this season, but with a huge struggle both in Serie A and the Coppa Italia. We got there by making the most of the quality at our disposal.
“This is a special time of the season, as we cannot drop points along the way, even against a strong and organised opponent. You only live once, you don’t get two chances, so to make life important you have to make the most of every moment as it comes, not wait for another to come along.”
Roma have been soaring since moving to three at the back, but Spalletti leaves the door open for another change.
“We can return to a four-man defence, especially once the squad is complete. The essential thing is that the team is balanced.”
