The Giallorossi are already qualified for the next phase of the Europa League as group winners, regardless of tomorrow’s result away to Astra Giurgiu.

“We have left some players at home because of small problems,” said Spalletti in his Press conference.

“Kostas Manolas has sprained his right ankle. Daniele De Rossi has the same inflammation of the left Achilles tendon that sometimes flares up, so we need to keep an eye on it.

“Antonio Rudiger’s recovery is following the plan after such a serious injury. Diego Perotti has a slight left quadricep issue and Federico Fazio a left flexor muscle problem. They all need to recover before Monday.”

On Monday evening Roma face Milan in a head-to-head for second place in Serie A, but first there’s a trip to Romania to take care of.

“Tomorrow Thomas Vermaelen will play from the start. I expect a good performance from him, because he looked in good shape in training and I am convinced he’s ready to play.

“I expect the mentality to grow from game to game, as we want to become the side that goes out there only to win and prove what Roma can do.

“It’s important to maintain a strong mentality in all contexts. The mind makes the difference, so if we played the last game badly, there can be some uncertainty in the next.

“We must be that team that always gives its best in every game, every time we step on to the pitch. It might’ve seemed easy when we beat Astra in Rome, but in practice that was not really the case and tomorrow I expect it to be the same.”

Juan Manuel Iturbe is likely to feature amid reports he’s running out of chances to avoid a January exit.

“It depends on many factors and he mustn’t feel like tomorrow is an exam,” continued the Coach.

“He has a lot of quality like pace and strength, a devastating shot. We know him, the fans appreciated him and what’s fundamental will be his desire and his ideas, the results he wants from this campaign.

“Tomorrow evening is a moment he will have to make the most of.”
