Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti said Lorenzo Insigne is one of those players capable of creating something out of nothing on the 30-year-old’s final home match.

To reinforce his point, the Partenopei coach compared the departing captain to Italy legends Roberto Baggio, Alessandro Del Piero and, more intriguingly Francesco Totti.

“It is clear that with players such as him they sometimes make you angry,” he told DAZN after Napoli’s 3-0 win over Genoa. “But when they’re missing…

“Lorenzo is part of that group of players who, from nowhere, can find a solution – he is a magician of a player.

“He is like Del Piero, like Baggio, like Totti.”

Spalletti mentioning Totti will have raised some eyebrows among Roma fans.

In the Giallorossi’s autobiography, he criticised Spalletti for his role in bringing an end to his 24-year playing career with his hometown club and there have been snipes between the two via the media ever since that day in 2017.

Insigne is leaving Napoli after 10 years to join MLS side FC Toronto.

  1. @just saying Del Piero cost Italy the euro 2000 and the 1998 World Cup he sucked. In 2002 he bumbled as well
