Spalletti: ‘Nainggolan is back’

Luciano Spalletti confirms Radja Nainggolan will be back in the Inter squad to face Empoli where “we have to win”.

The Belgian was suspended by the club for disciplinary reasons, so sat out the win over Napoli on Boxing Day.

“He’ll be available again,” Spalletti confirmed in his pre-match Press conference.

“I’ll evaluate things because I need to see the players in training again, so little time has passed so there will probably be some changes from the last starting XI.”

“I’ll evaluate things because I need to see the players in training again, so little time has passed so there will probably be some changes from the last starting XI.”

Spalletti is a former Empoli Coach, and is well aware that his side face a difficult task in Tuscany.

“In the last 25 years it has become the cradle of football, thanks to the expertise of those who work there. Talent always finds its expression.

“In recent years they’ve launched a lot of young players and have been able to exploit their qualities, that says a lot about the club on a football level.

“I took my first steps in football at Empoli, I’m always glad to come back because seeing that team again always tells me something new.

“It's clear that going to play against them now will not be an easy task because it’s a team that has both individual and collective qualities.

“As a footballer and now as a Coach I know what Empoli can give players in terms of motivation.

“As I said before Chievo, if we don’t put all our qualities on the pitch it’ll become difficult, and probably the recent incidents, where a young lad lost his life, will weigh on the players a bit.

“We need to reset though, because we need to win this game.”
