“I don’t know what will happen, but I’m just happy that someone like Modric who won the Champions League and was in the World Cup Final wanted to join us,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“The fact he would’ve liked to wear the Inter jersey fills me with joy. I think it’s difficult to get players like that, and the club did very well to create the right interest around him.

“I don’t think he will come, because Real Madrid still want to count on such a talented player. We’re a strong side regardless, and if Modric were to join us, we’d be very strong.”

There was a hint that Modric is staying, as this evening he came on as a substitue in the 3-1 Trofeo Santiago Bernabeu win over Milan and was given a very warm welcome.

The fans chanted his name and urged him to remain, with the midfielder responding positively to the crowd.
